Water Supply Interruptions

The Council are posting up to date information for the County on Water Supply Interruptions on their blog, a feed of which I'm carrying on the front of my site:

dlremergencyupdates.blogspot.com

Customer queries during office hours can be directed to the Water Supply section of the Council on 205 4800 or outside of office hours 677 8844. You can also report leaks and burst mains by email through the address burstmains@dlrcoco.ie or leave a message for the water services section through the comment page on their website.

The Council have informed us they are experiencing an extremely high volume of calls and emails and apologise in advance if you are unable to get through. Staff are doing their best to respond as quickly as possible to all customer queries.

As a consequence of the reduction in water supply pressures which are being implemented across the County, some businesses and households will experience a loss of water supply. If you lose supply for more than a 24hr period, please call the Council as they are endevouring, where possible, to have at least some supply everywhere for a number of hours.

Update 22nd January 11.00am

Water is being restored to those areas of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County which were without water overnight. However, it will take some hours for supply to be restored to all affected areas and in some cases even longer.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council contains a high proportion of older housing stock with associated older plumbing systems. Householders living in these older houses are likely to experience delays in the restoration of full water supply and in particular the re-filling of storage tanks.

Please continue to check the website and blog for updates on any further supply restrictions or pressure reductions.

Water Off Notice

In order to facilitate the repair of burst watermains, the following areas will be without water today, Friday 22nd January 2010:

Update 19th January 3.15pm

The overall water supply situation across the region remains critical, and further restrictions must be put in place until the water network is fully restored.

Further to our notice at 13:15pm, we are confirming that water is being temporarily restored to those areas which were affected by pressure reduction and water off notices yesterday evening. A "water restoration notice" is not intended to relay that the regional water supply crisis has been fully resolved but rather was intended to serve as an upate for those areas whose water supply was impacted last night.

We are happy to clarify this point.

Update 19th January 1.15pm

Water is being restored to those areas of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County which were without water or on reduced pressure overnight with the exception of Old Quarry Dalkey ( burst mains repair). Other problems, such as air-locking of pipes, can result in a lack of water in bathroom and toilet fittings. For further information on how to solve an air locking problem please refer to Advice on Getting rid of Airlocks

Update 17th January 11.00am

Water on Notice - most areas across the County

Water is currently being restored to all areas across the County that have been without supply overnight. This includes the Gallops area of Sandyford, which had a specific problem yesterday due to pump failure. The supply may take some time to work itself through the network so the Council are asking customers to be patient as the tanks fill. It may be necessary  to restrict water supplies later on in the day; the Council will however continue to advise you in advance where possible of those areas that may be affected.

Some progress has been made in restoring supply to the Killiney/Ballinclea area, however specific roads are still without water and customers are advised that water tankers remain on standby with supplies in the following locations today:

Dalkey: Cuala Car Park Hyde Road 10:00 to 6:00 p.m
Killiney: Station Road adjacent to Dart Station 10:00 to 6:00 p.m
Dalkey Hill Car Park 10:00 to 6:00 p.m
Avondale Road (Cluny School) 10.00 to 5:00 p.m

Many thanks to all of you who continue to report mains leakages across the County through the Comment Box on our website homepage - this information is invaluable. Crews are continuing to work hard at fixing pipes the length and breadth of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.

Update 16th January 6.15pm

Water Tanker Locations and Water Supply Update Killiney/Ballinclea and The Gallops

The Council wish to apologise to those households who have been without water for over 48 hours in the Killiney/Ballinclea area of the County, where a significant leakage has been identified, resulting in loss of water supply across the area.

Leakage Inspectors are actively working to identify the source of the leakage and once specific areas are eliminated from an association with the source of the leak, it should be possible to restore supply on an incremental basis. We are hopeful that some households within this area will have water this evening.

Water tankers will again be distributing supplies tomorrow, Sunday 17 January, as follows:

Dalkey - Cuala Car Park Hyde Road - 10.00 a.m - 6.00 p.m
Killiney Station Road, adjacent to Dart Station - 10.00 a.m - 6.00 p.m
Dalkey: Dalkey Hill Car Park 10:00 a.m to 6.00 p.m
Avondale Road (Cluny School) 10.00 to 5.00.p.m

Please ensure that the following precautions are taken when using water from roadside tankers:

Water must be boiled for - Drinking; preparation of foods which are not boiled in the process of cooking, like salads; brushing of teeth; making of ice; any activity that might see water swallowed.

Great care should also be taken with boiled water to avoid burns and scalds, as accidents can easily happen, especially with small children

The Gallops

We are aware that households in The Gallops estate in Sandyford have been without water this morning and afternoon. This has been caused by a pump failure. The Council are endeavouring to restore water to this area for a short period this evening but wish to advise householders that supplies will be cut off again from 19:00 this evening until mid morning on Sunday 17/10/10. We wish to apologise for the continued inconvenience.

While water has already been restored to most users in the above areas, householders and businesses are advised that full restoration of supply make take a number of hours.

Householders and Businesses should not leave taps open while awaiting a return of water as this will lead to further wastage.

Householders and Businesses are also strongly advised to check their storage tanks once filling has recommenced as sometimes the ball valves may not return to their fully closed position. If it is not possible to gain access to the storage tanks Householders and Businesses should check that there is no water flowing from their storage tank overflow pipes (these pipes are normally visible under the eaves of the roof). If there is water flowing in the overflow pipes then urgent intervention is required at the storage tank to prevent wastage and the possibility of internal flooding.
