Greens' Vision for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown
The Green Party has set out its vision for the future of DĂșn Laoghaire in a submission to the County Development Plan 2010-2016.
The submission calls for a new task force to revitalise DĂșn Laoghaire town centre, the County’s first ‘eco town’ at Cherrywood and improved public transport with a costal cycleway and an extended Luas to Bray.
The Green Party are also committed to safeguarding green belts in the County and are insisting that lands at Clontra and Airfield should be protected from development.
Green Party TD for DĂșn Laoghaire CiarĂĄn Cuffe stated:
“We’re setting out a vision for the County that includes more parks, allotments and ‘child proofed’ streets where it’s safe for kids to play, socialise and walk and cycle. It’s about improving quality of life for the people living here.
“We want to see better public transport options to make it easier for people to leave the car at home. The Council must begin building the Sandycove to Sutton Cycleway which will be a fantastic amenity for residents and visitors alike. The Luas should also be extended to Bray.
“I’d also like to see the town of DĂșn Laoghaire take full advantage of its great location on the seafront, unique character and history and decent transport links. We’re calling for a new task force to bring different interests together to revitalise the town. I believe Dun Laoghaire would benefit from improved civic space on George’s Street and a modest development at the Baths.”
Green Party TD for South Dublin Eamon Ryan said:
“I’d love to see Cherrywood become the County’s first ‘eco town’. It has huge potential to become a truly sustainable town with well-designed buildings, high energy standards and good public transport links."
