Greens welcome plan for undocumented migrant workers

Green Party Justice spokesperson Ciaran Cuffe TD has welcomed the Government's decision to put a scheme in place for non-EU migrants working in Ireland who have become undocumented through reasons beyond their control.

Deputy Cuffe said:

“There are many migrants who through no fault of their own fall through the cracks in the system. This scheme will give them an opportunity to apply for temporary residence permission and re-enter the work permit system, with each case analysed on its own merits.

“I think it’s important we send the right signals to those who have come to Ireland, worked here and put down roots that their contribution is valued. I believe this scheme will help in that process.

“The Green Party have worked hard with our colleagues in Government on this issue and I’m pleased with today’s announcement,” he concluded.
