Financial Declaration

My current financial interests are as follows:

-I am an architect, planner, and college lecturer. I  lecture in planning at the Dublin Institute of Technology, Bolton Street, Dublin 1. I am a member of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland and the Irish Planning Institute.

-I am the owner of a Protected Structure comprising a shop with an overhead apartment at 16 Fade Street, South City Markets, Dublin 2.

-I hold units of the Friends First Stewardship Fund and the Dolmen Securities Green Effects Fund.

Donations

Since 2002, I have received two donations over the declaration threshold of €634.87. These were both from Maurice Fitzgerald, a Dún Laoghaire resident. In 2002 he donated €1,000, and in 2007 he donated €2,500. This was spent on my election campaign.

As a Green Party representitive, I do not accept corporate donations.

Salary, Allowances and Foreign Travel

In 2010 my salary before tax, income and pension levies was €129,409.00.

The salary increase relates to my appointment as a Minister of State on 23 March 2010, for which I receive a salary increase of €46,594 on a full year basis.

Below, I've outlined the allowances I claimed for 2009 and the expenses I incurred last year through my work as a TD, grouped under headings that best approximate the type of expense which occurred. There is a significant cost involved in working as TD, particularly in running a constituency office. I believe it is important to make this information publicly available.

Committee Travel
Foreign travel as part of a committee delegation is calculated seperatly. Delegations are organsised by the Committee secretariat with travel and accommodation expenses reimbursed directly by the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission. Some foreign travel allowances are paid to Deputies however.

As part of the Oireachtas Committee on Climate Change and Energy Security delegation I travelled overland to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December. Cost TBC

In 2008 my salary, allowances and expenses were as follows:

Salary:  €98,164.32
Committee Allowance: Vice-Chairperson €10,400.48
Expense Allowance: €39,568.40 (including some foreign travel expenses)

Travel: In May 2008, I was part of an Oireachtas Committee on Climate Change and Energy Security delegation to the Marine Institute, Galway. The total cost per attendee was €288.94. In January 2008, as a member of  the Oireachtas Committee on Climate Change and Energy Security, I attended a ‘Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency’ meeting in Brussels. The total cost per attendee was €652.

In 2007 my salary, allowances and expenses were as follows:

Salary:  €93,964.63
Expense Allowance: €32,075.79

Travel: In November 2007, as a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Climate Change and Energy Security, I attended the ‘Road to Copenhagen 2009 Leadership, Sustainable Development and Climate Change Conference’ in Brussels. The total cost per attendee was €1,139.

In 2006 my salary, allowances and expenses were as follows:

Salary:  €89,847.54
Expense Allowance: €29,567.35 (including some foreign travel expenses)

Travel: In June 2006, as a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Heritage and Local Government, I attended the ‘Conference of Chairpersons of the Environment Committees of the National Parliaments of the EU Member States’ in Vienna. The total cost per attendee was €1,054.

In 2005 my salary, allowances and expenses were as follows:

Salary:  €86,017.82
Expense Allowance: €44,063.30 (including some foreign travel expenses)

Travel: In April 2005, as a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Heritage and Local Government, I attended the ‘Inaugural Conference of the Global Capacity Building Initiative for parliamentarians on Sustainable Development’ in Paris. The total cost per attendee was €1,153. In July 2005, I was part of an Irish Parliamentary delegation to Lithu

The total cost per attendee was €1409.74. In September 2005 as a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Heritage and Local Government, I visited the Sellafield nuclear power station in England. The total cost per attendee was €749.
