Cuffe Hopeful for DĂșn Laoghaire Pfizer Jobs
CiarĂĄn Cuffe, TD for DĂșn Laoghaire, has today reiterated the Government’s commitment to preventing possible job losses following an announcement from Pfizer that three of their plants will close in a restructuring of the business between now and 2014.
The IDA and Pfizer are looking for a buyer for the three plants scheduled to close, which includes their DĂșn Laoghaire facility where 210 people are employed.
Green Party TD for DĂșn Laoghaire CiarĂĄn Cuffe said:
“I know this is a very difficult time for the employees and their families. The Government are committed to finding a buyer for the Pfizer plants and I'm hopeful that one will be found before any redundancies take place.
“I’ve spoken with my colleague, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe TD regarding the current situation and he has assured me that the IDA is taking every possible measure to protect these jobs. I’m hopeful that the state-of-the-art plant on Pottery Road will continue to operate after Pfizer have left.
“I’ve also given my support to the DĂșn Laoghaire County Enterprise Board who are establishing a Task Force to deal with the impact on the County as a result of Pfizer’s decision.”
