Greens say good riddance to DĂșn Laoghaire Cobbles

The Green Party has welcomed plans to replace the granite cobbles on Georges Street in DĂșn Laoghaire. However, they say that the cobbled surface should never have been put down in the first place.

Cuffe welcomes €15m fund for Councils tackling severe weather

Green Party TD for DĂșn Laoghaire CiarĂĄn Cuffe has welcomed extra funding for local authorities to tackle the effects of severe weather.

Environment Minister John Gormley announced an additional €15 million in contingency funding for local authorities to cover exceptional costs associated with the extreme weather currently being experienced. The money will be available for those local authorities most in need of supplementary funding, as a contribution to exceptional costs as a result of the weather.

Cuffe Supports 'Save Sandycove Green' Campaign

The Green Party has given its support to a campaign to save the green space at Newtownsmith and has asked the Council not to proceed with a scheme for car parking which will encroach on this space.

The Council plans to narrow the green to provide 15 additional parking spaces.

Gritting Update for DĂșn Laoghaire Rathdown County

Update 4pm: The Council have issued the following statement:

A total of 23 Council crews deployed across the County dealing with roads and footpaths. 12 crews from Housing Maintenance, Street Cleansing and Parks have been hard at work from early this morning treating footpaths on the approaches to public buildings, schools, churches, DART and LUAS stations as well as footpaths in the main towns and villages throughout the County. This work will continue all day Saturday.

Lower Speed Limits for Dun Laoghaire Roads

The Green Party has welcomed DĂșn Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s decision to lower certain speed limits in the County from 11 January 2010.

Green Party TD for DĂșn Laoghaire CiarĂĄn Cuffe stated:
“The Green Party has previously sought the introduction of 30km per hour speed limits in built-up areas and I’m delighted to see the Council introduce them in DĂșn Laoghaire.

Monkstown Ring Road Q&A


Background:

In 2005 DĂșn Laoghaire Rathdown County Council moved ahead with their plans to build a new road between Carysfort Avenue and Deansgrange Road. The Green Party Councillors voted unanimously against the road but the majority of councillors voted in favour of it.

Greens express concern at €4bn Eastern Bypass

The Green Party has criticised a new report on the Eastern bypass motorway as being out of touch and out of date.

The Report from the National Roads Authority costs the proposed motorway at €4 billion, and proposes the construction of a new bridge across Dublin Bay from the Dublin Port to Booterstown.
