Carlisle Pier Demolition Works Flawed
The Green Party has called on DĂșn Laoghaire Harbour Company to cease the demolition of the hundred and fifty year old historic buildings on Carlisle Pier and has written to the Council urging them to take enforcement procedures against these works.
CiarĂĄn Cuffe TD was present at the Pier this morning as contractors carried out demolition works on the Pier, removing the roof and support structures from the buildings.
“I’m dismayed to see the buildings on Carlisle Pier being torn down.
“The Harbour Company has stated that these buildings are not protected structures and has begun to demolish them without planning permission.
“Carlisle Pier falls within the curtilage of the East and West Pier, both protected structures. I believe that planning permission is required and the people of DĂșn Laoghaire should be consulted before buildings are demolished.
“I don’t think anyone would miss the newer 1960s buildings surrounding the old Victorian structure but to carry out what amounts to a scorched earth policy on the Pier is inexcusable. These buildings are part of DĂșn Laoghaire’s heritage and should be retained.”
