Transport 21

Ciarán Cuffe asked the Minister for Transport if he will provide details on the feasibility study for phase two of the Navan rail line; the expected time-scale for results of the study; and the expected date to begin planning.

Minister of Transport (Mr. Dempsey):

Transport 21 provides, subject to compliance with the capital investment appraisal guidelines, for the construction of Phase 2 of the Navan Rail Line by 2015. The detailed planning and design of the project is a matter for Iarnród Éireann. I understand from Iarnrod Eireann that the company is now proceeding, following completion of a scoping study, with the detailed feasibility study necessary for the determination of the final route and that this will be completed by April of next year.
