The Green Party has welcomed Dún
Laoghaire Rathdown County Council's decision to participate in
the Government's Cycle to Work scheme. At its last meeting on
March 9th, the Council approved a policy motion to facilitate
the scheme's implementation for Council employees. The Council
also plans to offer cycle training courses to encourage more
employees to get to work by bike.
Green Party TD for Dún Laoghaire Ciarán Cuffe stated:
"We've seen huge interest in this scheme, from both the public
and private sector and it's great to see the Council leading the
way for Dún Laoghaire employers. We've set up a website -
bikescheme.ie - to provide information about it which
has had over 10,000 unique visitors since the beginning of the
year. I'd encourage interested employees and employers to log on
to find out more."
Green Party Councillor for Ballybrack Tom Kivlehan said:
"Cycling is a fast and inexpensive way to travel to work and
this scheme will mean fewer cars on our roads and less parking
spaces that the Council has to pay for.
"I also welcome the news that the Council is offering Safe
Cycling training courses to all its employees."
