Green Party calls time on rezonings at City
West as South Dublin County Council
finalises its Development Plan
The Green Party has called for an end to
controversial rezonings as South Dublin County Council finalises its Development
Plan tomorrow Wednesday 10 and on Thursday 11 November. The Party has criticised
developers who are creating facts on the ground in advance of this Development
Plan review process.
Green Party Planning spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe
TD said today that, "Good planning means zoning the right land for the
right uses at the right time. I don't believe that the rezonings being proposed
as part of the review of the South Dublin Development Plan are in the best
interest of the wider community."
"The Green Party does not believe that a
massive Conference Centre is appropriate for west Dublin. Dublin's Conference
Centre should be located within walking distance of the city centre. It should
also be accessible by public transport. The last thing west Dublin needs is more
traffic, more cars, and more car parks. Jim Mansfield's proposal is a third rate
solution and should not be approved."
"I understand that South Dublin County
Council agreed last December not to do business with those who breach the
planning laws. It looks to me as though the rezoning is being proposed simply to
solve Jim Mansfield's planning difficulties, and therefore goes against the
letter and the spirit of the resolution," concluded Deputy Cuffe.
