Green Party calls for Bewleys Premises to
remain as Cafés
The Green Party has called for the
Bewley's premises in Dublin to remain as Cafés, even if the buildings are
sold.
Ciarán Cuffe TD the Green Party's
Heritage Spokesperson stated:
"The premises are a unique part of
Dublin's heritage and must remain in use as Cafés. The Grafton Street
Building is a Protected Structure, including its famous Harry Clarke stained
glass windows. These cannot be removed without planning permission. I am calling
on Dublin City Council to ensure that the café tradition continues.
"It would make a mockery of out planning
laws if the Bewleys were turned into clothes shop. They are cultural and
literary landmarks that have stood the test of times and must be retained and
protected.
