PRESS RELEASE

Greens say 'Join the Dots' as new Luas Red Line opens

The Green Party has welcomed the launch today of the Luas Red line from Connolly Station to Tallaght but has vowed to continue its 'Join the Dots' campaign to ensure the Government link the two light rail lines.

Green Party Planning spokesperson, Ciarán Cuffe TD, said that the Party had distributed postcards addressed to the Minister for Transport urging him to 'join the dots' and connect the two LUAS light rail lines in the centre of Dublin. "We need a public transport system that is joined and integrated. A lot of time and money has been spent on Luas, and we want the Minister to ensure that the two lines join up in the city centre so that we get the best value from our investment." What is the point of going to all this expense and disruption if you are not prepared to join the lines and offer Dubliners a proper integrated transport system "

Mr. Cuffe said that it has been estimated that the two lines could be linked at a cost of approximately €100 million. This would appear to be a small price to pay for an integrated Luas system which would greatly enhance the quality of life for Dubliners
