PRESS RELEASE

Green Party Repeats Its Call On McDowell To Produce Immigration Paper In Light of Klu Klux Klan Comments

The Green Party has repeated its call to the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to publish a Green Paper on Migration in the light of comments made in the latest edition of The Dubliner magazine.

Ciarán Cuffe TD, The Green Party's Justice Spokesperson stated: "The absence of an immigration policy allows extremists to portray the Citizenship Referendum as racist. Minister McDowell should bring forward a Green Paper on Migration as a matter of urgency so that the implications of the Citizenship Referendum can be examined.

"Clarity is required for many people who are currently living in limbo. We must put a humane and compassionate immigration and residency policy in place. Such a policy should reflect international human rights norms.

"The first step is to debate the issues within a Green Paper. Uncertainty fuels the fires of bigotry, and allows racists to air their bigoted comments.
